OUR MUSIC TEAM

Welcome to Our Awesome New Band at Unity of Richmond

Nancy Millhouse
From the young age of 3, Nancy remembers accompanying her father, a bandleader, to musical gigs.  She grew up loving music and musical instruments. Bass guitar is her favorite instrument. She graduated from VCU with a BA in music and a minor in education…and went on to become a Music Teacher. She teaches and develops the music program at Carver College and Career Academy. In the past, she has directed award-winning show bands at Thomas Dale, L.C. Bird, Cosby and Manchester High Schools. She has experience in organizing sheet music, coordinating practice schedules, arranging scores and conducting a variety of musical groups and all styles of music. Nancy has been our resident bass player at Unity of Richmond for 3 years and recently accepted the position as our Music Director. Her duties include accompanying vocalists on the acoustic guitar, playing bass guitar with the band, leading choir rehearsals and conducting both the choir and the band. This year, Nancy married her sweetheart, Courtney Millhouse, and we’re pleased to have them both as part of our community.

Ian Krauss
Ian has been around music all his life, studying piano for 15 years. In middle school band, he began studying the oboe, then joined his high school marching band as a percussionist and marched all 4 years. Ian made the Virginia All-District Band and Choirs each year of his high school career and sang in the Virginia All-State Choir, as well. Additionally Ian was awarded the honor of singing at Carnegie Hall during his senior year of high school. He is a freshman at VCU and plans on working in the field of prosthetics in the future.  Currently, Ian plays keyboard/piano for Sunday services, practices with the choir and is the Assistant Music Director to Nancy.

Joe Lubman
Joe has been playing drums for nearly 20 years and has taught for the past 8 years. Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from VCU, he has played freelance gigs and musicals throughout the Greater Richmond Metropolitan Area. Joe’s favorite musical styles are jazz, funk, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian, although he studies and teaches all types of music. He is a teacher and workshop leader for the Universal Room and has been a resident musician at Unity of Richmond since 2012.

Forrest Link
Forrest has been involved with music since a very young age, tagging along to countless of his father’s  performances throughout his childhood. In his early teens, Forrest took up the guitar, inspired by rock and roll guitar players of the ’60s to the present. Over the past few years Forrest has actively performed in the Richmond Theatre Community, playing guitar for various musicals including The Color Purple (Virginia Repertory Theatre), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (TheatreLab), and recently The Rocky Horror Picture Show (VCU), among others. Recently he joined renowned jazz singer Desiree Roots as the guitar player in her band, The Rosetta Stone. Forrest is in his fourth year as a professional guitar teacher and has an incredible studio of dedicated students. He strives to make music a part of his life every day and is thankful for the opportunity to perform with Nancy, Joe, Ian, and the wonderful folks at Unity of Richmond as a member of the band.
